Computer Curriculum Grade 7
10-Week Course
Course Description
The seventh grade computer course builds on skills developed in the sixth grade, and moves students on to learn more sophisticated hardware and software used in the professional world today. Students will continue to research, word process and create spreadsheets and graphs, plus they will gain experience in the audio and image editing, and data manipulation realms, and expand on their skill repertoire in desktop publishing and more advanced slideshow presentations.
Students will learn the importance of using today’s technology safely and appropriately, as well as the importance of respecting others while utilizing the technology at their fingertips.

Create Cyberbullying Comic Strip
Students will learn about real-life cyberbullying cases that have occurred in our country. Then they will create comic depicting a story that they write.

Create a Brochure
Students will learn about research skills online. They will the choose an altruistic topic to create a brochure, using advanced page layout skills.
Applications used: Internet Browser, Microsoft Word
Create a Spreadsheet and Chart/Graph
Students will survey over 100 students at North Middle school on a topic of their choice. They will then input their data into a spreadsheet and interpret that data by creating a chart/graph.
Applications used: Microsoft Excel
Podcasting
Students will learn to write a script and record a podcast. They will use the results of their survey to create an audio recording of themselves presenting these results. They will incorporate sound effects and music while learning advanced audio editing skills.
Applications used: Microsoft Word, GarageBand

- Learn the definition of plagiarism and demonstrate the ability to cite sources correctly.
- Learn the various uses for spreadsheets, charts, and graphs and will demonstrate the ability to create them for projects.
- Learn how to prepare images to be used in other-variety of project outcomes.
- Demonstrate more advanced page layout skills.
- Demonstrate the ability to calculate, organize, and present information visually.
- Record and edit audio elements and save them in a variety of formats/mediums.
- Learn how to design for a screen and gain an understanding of the importance of intuitive interactivity.
